Alley of the Armenian Alphabet
Monument to the Armenian alphabet
The monument is a composition consisting of 39 letters of the Armenian alphabet, made of tuff, and there is also a figure of Mestrop Mashtots (the creator of the Armenian alphabet). This composition is located outdoors near the main road, so it is easy to spot.
Each letter is located separately, so you can literally walk between them and find "your" letter, but it's not that easy. The Armenian alphabet is very complex and unusual for you and me. The letters of the Armenian alphabet are not at all similar to Russian, English, or Latin letters, and they are very easy to confuse.
The best stone carvers from all over Armenia took part in the creation of the monument to the alphabet in Armenia, and the final work was completed in 2005, just in time for the anniversary of the creation of the Armenian alphabet. And the Armenian alphabet appeared in the 5th century with the aim of spreading Christianity in Armenia.
Cross organ of Surb Khach.
If you rise a little higher from the place where the alphabet is located, you can see the concrete cross “Surb Khach” on the hill.
The concrete cross itself is of an unusual shape. At the foot there is a place to light funeral candles. This cross is not simple. It is located in a triangle between the mountains Ararat, Aragats and Ara.
The cross consists of 1,712 small crosses made from hollow pipes. Due to the unusual material, in windy weather the cross sounds like an organ. Everything about this cross is not accidental. The number of small crosses is the number of years that have passed since the adoption of Christianity in Armenia (at the time the cross was built). After construction, another small cross is added every year. The height of the cross is 33 meters according to the number of earthly years of Jesus Christ. With the onset of darkness, Surb Khach is illuminated and it seems that the cross is hanging from the sky. At the time of the installation of the monument in 2012, there were 1712 small crosses.
Glass Chapel
And on another hill, a little lower, a glass chapel was built. The lower part is white marble, the drum and dome are made of glass and metal. And below is the Heroes Park, a place to relax with paths and benches. Looks like it's all still under construction.
