Tatev Monastery

The Tatev Monastery, founded in the IX-early X centuries, remained for centuries the most important spiritual center of medieval Armenia. The largest university in the entire South Caucasus, monastic schools and many outbuildings operated on its territory. Despite numerous attacks by Turks and Persians, the most serious damage to Tatev was caused by the strongest earthquake in 1931. Now, after so many years of neglect, restoration work is underway in the monastery, it has been completely restored. Getting to the Tatev Monastery is almost the farthest location from Yerevan, more than 250 km. It is a colossal distance for Armenia.

The Devil's Bridge
”Satani Kamurj”

2.5km from the village of Tatev in the gorge of the Vorotan River is the Devil's Bridge or "Satani kamurj”. This is a natural bridge that has been formed for centuries from travertine and hot mineral waters with a temperature of about 250 °C. The bridge got its name because of the steam that rises from the bottom of the Vorotan River gorge. The length of the bridge is about 30m, its width is 50-60m. The height above the river surface is 50 m. It is located in the deepest part of the Vorotan gorge 700-800m. Under the bridge there are mineral springs that flow into the Vorotan River, stalactite caves and travertines.
